Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court on September 7, 2026, with Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde administering the oath of office.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Agrawal's appointment on August 31, and the Central Government issued the formal notification on September 6, a day before the swearing-in. Justice Agrawal was previously performing the duties of Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, following the retirement of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha.
The appointment follows a period of uncertainty over the Rajasthan High Court's leadership. Supreme Court judge Justice Sandeep Mehta had written to the Chief Justice of India raising serious complaints against Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, who was then serving as Acting Chief Justice. The Rajasthan High Court Bar Association had organised a work abstention, which continued until September 5, demanding the appointment of a regular Chief Justice.
