Editorial Policy

Our commitment to accuracy, independence and transparency in legal journalism. Last reviewed: June 2025.

Overview

Our Editorial Commitment

Nyay Vidhan's editorial policy governs how we report, verify, publish and correct all legal news and analysis. These standards apply equally to our staff journalists, contributing experts and community submissions. Our readers — lawyers, judges, students and citizens — rely on us for accuracy in a domain where errors have real consequences.

This policy is reviewed annually by our Editorial Board, which includes senior advocates, legal academics and independent journalists.

Section 1

Editorial Principles

  • Accuracy first: We publish facts we can verify. Unverified claims are clearly labelled as allegations or unconfirmed reports.
  • Fairness: All parties affected by our reporting are given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
  • Independence: Editorial decisions are made solely by our editorial team. Advertisers, sponsors and external stakeholders have no influence over our coverage.
  • Proportionality: We match the scale of our coverage to the significance of the development, avoiding sensationalism.
  • Public interest: We publish information that serves the legal community and the broader public, not merely what generates traffic.
Section 2

Fact-Checking Standards

  • All case citations are verified against official court records or authenticated copies of judgments.
  • Legislative developments are confirmed against official Gazette notifications or Parliamentary records.
  • Quotations from judges, advocates and officials are sourced from official transcripts, press releases or direct attribution.
  • Statistical claims include source citations. Data from third parties is independently verified where possible.
  • AI-assisted drafting, where used, is subject to full human editorial review before publication.
Section 3

Source Verification Process

We maintain a three-tier verification process:

  • Primary sources: Official court orders, judgment PDFs from court websites, Gazette notifications, parliamentary records.
  • Secondary sources: Statements from advocates of record, bar association officials, law ministry spokespersons.
  • Tertiary sources: Academic commentary, senior legal journalists and domain experts — used for context, not as primary attribution.

Anonymous sources are used only when the information is in the public interest and cannot be obtained through any other means. Such use is approved by the Editor-in-Chief.

Section 4

Corrections & Updates Policy

We take corrections seriously and act swiftly when errors are identified.

  • Factual errors are corrected within 24 hours of being identified, with a clear correction notice appended to the article.
  • Corrections are never silent. We do not delete or rewrite text without noting the change.
  • Significant corrections are also published on our social media channels.
  • Readers can submit corrections at corrections@nyayvidhan.in.
Section 5

Content Independence

Nyay Vidhan maintains a strict separation between editorial and commercial operations.

  • Sponsored content and native advertising are clearly labelled as "Sponsored" or "Advertisement".
  • No advertiser receives advance notice of editorial coverage or the ability to influence its framing.
  • Journalists do not cover entities in which they hold a financial interest.
  • Gifts, hospitality or free services from legal entities covered in our reporting are declined.
Section 6

Transparency Standards

  • Nyay Vidhan is owned by Nyay Vidhan Media Pvt. Ltd., a privately held company. We publish our ownership structure on this page.
  • All contributing experts and columnists disclose professional affiliations that may be relevant to their subject matter.
  • Our funding model includes digital advertising, sponsored content (clearly labelled) and subscription products.
  • Editorial Board members are listed publicly with their professional biographies.
  • We do not accept funding from political parties, government bodies or entities that are primary subjects of our coverage.
